As an ICTU affiliated Union we are urging POA members and their families to support and attend a march and rally in support of the workers employed in Dunnes Stores who suffer as a result of the use of low hour contracts and zero hour contracts by this employer and also on behalf of the other tens of thousands of workers employed on similar contracts across all sectors in the economy who suffer likewise.
Zero hour contracts and low hour contracts are a deeply exploitative form of labour contract and it is important that this employer and other employers know that the treatment of workers in such a manner will not be accepted by workers in our society who demand to be treated with dignity and fairness in the workplace.
It is also necessary to demonstrate to Government that legislative reform is necessary in the area of zero hour and low hour contracts so as to prevent the possibility of such exploitative employment practices taking hold in the first place. Arrangements are as follows:
1.00 p.m. Saturday, 6th June, 2015
Merrion Square, Dublin 1
The issue of Decency at Work, which is central to this dispute, is of concern to all workers and we are urging all POA members to attend this march and rally as part of the campaign to ensure that Dunnes Stores workers get a fair settlement to this dispute.
Yours sincerely on behalf of the Prison Officers Association
